Prodigal Priorities (Haggai 1:3-11)

📖 Introduction

Today, we’re talking about priorities—specifically, what happens when we get our priorities wrong. The people in Haggai’s time were busy building their own houses while God’s house, the temple, was left in ruins. 🏚️ It wasn’t just about buildings—it was a sign that their hearts were focused on themselves instead of God.

🚨 What Are "Prodigal Priorities"?

Just like the story of the prodigal son who got lost chasing his own desires, "prodigal priorities" means we’re putting our own comfort ahead of God’s calling. 😕 Jesus taught us to "seek first the kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33). When we put God first, everything else falls into its proper place. 📜✨

📌 Key Points:

  1. Getting Comfortable in the Wrong Things 🛋️

The people of Haggai’s time got comfortable ignoring the work they were supposed to do for God. They focused on their own homes instead of rebuilding the temple. When we get too comfortable in our own pursuits, it’s time to pause and ask questions about where our hearts are.

  1. The Way Back Starts in the Heart ❤️

Repenting and realigning our priorities with God’s isn’t about feeling guilty—it’s about letting God’s love pull us back to where we belong.

🔍 Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever put your own comfort ahead of what you know God wants you to do?

  • What is one step you can take today to put God first again?

✏️ Takeaway:

We all have moments when we focus too much on ourselves and not enough on God. The good news is, God is always ready to meet us right where we are and help us realign our priorities. Let’s take that step today and seek Him first! 🙏✨
